About Mephibosheth Ministry
About Mephibosheth Ministry
Presenting God’s word and His love to people who face
physical and mental disabilities worldwide
Mephibosheth was founded in 1992 by two friends, Mary Jane Ponten and John Nix. Mary Jane and John discovered that churches didn’t often include people with disabilities in its programs. They wanted to educate churches that people with disabilities can be great assets to their congregations. The ministry has done many things including writing and distributing Bible studies for people with mental challenges, traveling with Joni and Friends and its Wheels for the World outreach, and establishing a growing outreach to the peoples of Ghana.
Tait Berge has known Mary Jane for over thirty years. When he received his call to full-time ministry, he knew he had to talk to Mary Jane. After years of discussion and prayer, Mary Jane invited Tait to come to be a part of the ministry first as a ministry associate, and then as associate director in charge of church relations.
The mission of the church relations department is:
To encourage the Body of Christ to not only accept but also to use
people with disabilities’ gifts and talents.
The vision of the church relations department is:
To see that people with disabilities are not only attending, but also participating and serving Jesus Christ within their local church and/or other Christian organizations
We do this by:
- Providing disabled etiquette training
- Working with people with disabilities and their churches to find a place where they might serve.
- Problem solving
Mephibosheth Ministry is registered as a 501C3 in the state of Colorado. Please take a moment and read through our twenty most asked questions.
For just as the body is one and yet has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, form one body, so it is with Christ
